ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPORTS
THE COLLEGE LIFTED SHAHEED-E-AZAM BHAGAT SINGH OVERALL GENERAL (MEN & WOMEN COMBINED) SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY 2009-10

It was on March 13, 2010 that BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar created history of sorts by lifting the coveted SHAHEED-E-AZAM BHAGAT SINGH OVERALL GENERAL (MEN & WOMEN COMBINED) SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY 2009-10. The college became the largest contributor towards university’s attaining the Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Trophy for the year 2009-10, with 16 Championships, 12 First Runners Up Positions and 4 Second Runners Up Positions. At a glittering ceremony organized at Dashmesh Auditorium, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, held under the aegis of Hon’ble Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Sports, Punjab; Principal Dr Neelam Kamra, as a leader of the institution, became the proud recipient of the honours and the cash award, amounting to Rs 31,000. She led a committed and jubilant team of teachers – Mrs Harpreet Mohan Kaur and Ms Sweety, coaches and 40 odd outperformers at international, national and inter varsity levels of different games like Handball, Archery, Wrestling, Softball, Baseball, Weight Lifting, Power Lifting, Judo, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Kho Kho, Fencing and Football. The winners and the achievers i.e. the players received the awesome cash prize of Rs 3,50,000.

 

OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS

The college enjoys the rare honour of having given to the nation, one Arjuna Awardee, one Olympian and more than a score of players at the international level in addition to 400 sports women of extraordinary ability and mettle at the national level during the last five years. The college's investment in sports is more than 30 lakhs per year and has the latest equipment for all the 37 events. The college has made tremendous contribution to University sports adding a major chunk in Guru Nanak Dev University's exceptional feat of winning Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad All India Trophy for sports year after year. Our players have been the proud members of the Indian contingent for the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. A large number of players of this college have represented Guru Nanak Dev University at the Intervarsity level and have brought laurels of victory by winning Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals.

INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
  • Three Ball-badminton players Manpreet, Sharandeep & Sonia were selected for Indian Ball-badminton Team for Indo-Thailand International Ball-badminton Test Series 2010 held at Bangkok, Thailand from Dec.11-14, 2010 and the team won Championship.
  • Ms. Pana Chaudhary, a college cyclist, represented India at Commonwealth Games, Delhi, from Oct.3-14, 2010. She also participated in Asian Games held at Guangzhou, China, from Nov.12-27, 2010. She was a member of Indian Cycling Team for Asian Cycling Championship held at Dubai, from Apr.11-20, 2010.
  • Ms. Ramandeep Kaur was a member of Indian Taekwondo Team for Indian Open International Taekwondo Championship.

NATIONAL LEVEL

Total 68 players participated in National level competitions. Among these, 25 players grabbed Champion positions, 10 got Runners-up positions and 7 players won Second Runners-up positions.

INTERVARSITY LEVEL

62 players of the college represented GNDU for All India Intervarsity competitions, 10 players were members of Champion teams, 6 players of Runners-up teams and 11 players were members of Second Runners-up teams.

STATE LEVEL

125 players of the college participated in State level competitions. 35 players were members of Champion teams, 25 players were members of Runners-up teams and 60 were of Second Runners-up teams.

DISTRICT LEVEL

90 players of the college participated in District level Competitions, 24 players were the members of Champion teams, 6 players were of Runners-up teams and 15 players were members of Second Runners-up teams.

INTER-COLLEGE LEVEL
  • 12 Teams - Fencing, Cycling, Table Tennis, Kayaking, Rowing, Yachting, Archery, Wrestling, Rope Mulkhambh, Judo, Handball and Lawn Tennis won Championships in Inter-college competitions held during the session.
  • 12 Teams- Taekwando, Squash Racket, Pistol Shooting, Rifle Shooting, Tug of War, Cricket, Cross Country, Archery (Wooden), Archery (Compound), Gymnastics (Rhythmic), Yoga and Power Lifting got First Runners-up positions.
  • 10 Teams - Boxing, Ball Badminton, Hockey, Kabaddi, Softball, Swimming, Volleyball, Weight-Lifting, Athletics & Gymnastics (Artistic) bagged Second Runners-up positions.

THE COLLEGE ALSO PROVIDES FREE HOSTEL & MESS FACILITIES AND TRANSPORT SERVICE TO THE PLAYERS BESIDES SCHOLARSHIPS AND CASH AWARDS ARE GIVEN TO DESERVING CANDIDATES. EXTENSIVE COACHING FACILITIES IN ALL THE GAMES ARE MADE AVAILABLE, EVEN FOR ROWING, CANOEING, KAYAKING ETC. & REMEDIAL CLASSES ARE PROVIDED WHEN THE PLAYERS GO OUT FOR TOURNAMENTS.
