A vibrant Textile Carnival ‘Vastra’ was organized at BBK DAV College for Women by Department of Bachelor of Design. This carnival was a joint effort of the Textile and Fashion wings of the department.
Showcasing the various fabric weaving and ornametation techniques used in textile industry, the students had setup stalls on screen printing, stencil printing, block printing, tie and dye, textile accessories and knitting machine as well as texture and fabric printing and weaving. Students of various schools participated in the carnival and were given live demonstrations of these various techniques.
Mrs. Arvinder Kaur, wife of Honourable District and Sessions Judge Mr. Gurbir Singh was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Natasha Goel, wife of Honourable Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr. Yukti Goel was the Guest of Honour for the carnival.
Appreciating the efforts of the students and staff, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that such hands-on sessions and events are essential for acquainting students with vocational skills. She added that BBK DAV College has always emphasised on such practical programmes.
Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee thanked the guests present on the carnival. He said that Amritsar has always been a big textile hub and it can provide good career options for the budding designers. Mrs. Mandeep Kaur Sokhi, Head, BD Department, Dr. Lalit Gopal Prashar, faculty of the department and other staff members were also present on the event.
