The Department of Zoology of BBK DAV College for Women organized a workshop on ‘Laboratory Preparation of Body Fluids’ under the aegis of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India and Community College Scheme of UGC, New Delhi. The workshop aimed at providing hands-on training to the faculty and students pertaining to the techniques of preparation and cytological examination of various body fluids viz. Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF), Ascitic Fluid & Pleural Fluid.
Dr. Rahul Mannan, Associate Professor, Deptt. of Pathology, Sri Guru Ram Dass Institute of Medical Science & Research was the resource person for this workshop. The workshop was preceded by a lecture on ‘Diagnostic Utility of Body Fluid Analysis’. In his lecture, Dr. Mannan discussed composition and formation of body fluids, techniques of specimen collection, cell count, slide differential of body fluids and diagnostic importance of body fluid examination.
The students of B.Sc. (Medical) Semester-VI and Diploma in Clinical Diagnostic Techniques prepared the stained smears of various body fluids for cell differentials and performed cell counts. The students were apprised of the clinical significance of cells seen in various body fluids.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the efforts of the department for conducting such a useful workshop. She said that such hands-on sessions are essential for acquainting students with practical knowledge. She added that BBK DAV College has always promoted such workshops. Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Head, Department of Zoology & Co-ordinator of Community College, along with other faculty members, attended the workshop.
