Department of Music and Dance of BBK DAV College staged a theatrical production Jasma Odhan in the college premises. The play was an attempt by students of B.Voc (Theatre and Stage Craft) to showcase their skills in various aspects of the production including acting, lighting, costumes, music, makeup and direction. The play was based on Bhavai, the Gujrati folk form. The play centred around the tale of Jasma, the earthly incarnation of a heavenly apsara, Kaamkundala. The play was written by Shanta Gandhi and directed by Ms. Sukhwinder, Assistant Professor in B.Voc.
Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Dean, College Development Council, GNDU was the Chief Guest. Mr. Jatinder Brar, Proprietor, Punjab Naatshala and Mr. Jagdish Sachdeva, an eminent writer and theatre director, were Guests of Honour.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. R.K. Mahajan said that the theme of the play was inspiring as it focused on the significance of culture and tradition in our life. Mr. Jatinder Brar appreciated the efforts of the department for providing a platform for the budding artists. He said that BBK DAV College has always maintained professional standards for its theatrical production. He further added that theatre is an integral part of culture and this college has always played a commendable role in popularising it.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the team for such a mesmerising and melodious theatrical performance. She said that BBK DAV has always been a frontrunner in a theatrical production in the city. She further added that art unites everybody and it transcends all kinds of discrimination.
Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee, Dr. V.P. Lakhanpal, Member, LMC, Ms. Sukhwinder, Assistant Professor in B.Voc alongwith other faculty members, felicitated the students.
