Title: The College holds its 45th Convocation [Apr.28, 2016]

The College held its 45th Convocation on 28th April 2016. Sh. Anil Joshi, Cabinet Minister, Local Bodies, Medical Education & Research (Punjab) was the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar, GNDU presided over the function. The convocation commenced with DAV Gaan followed by lighting of the lamp amidst recitation of vedic mantras. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, Mr. J.K. Luthra, Honorary Treasurer, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi & Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee welcomed the Chief Guest & the Distinguished Guest.
 
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia presented the college annual report and said, “We are proud of the fact that our college has remained in the forefront in academic, cultural & sports field. In academic field, students of the college have achieved 296 merit positions in 2015-16. In cultural activities, college has achieved Overall Championship Trophy by winning 29 out of 33 activities in Zonal Youth Festival held at GNDU. The college has also won Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh Trophy, 2015-16 five times in a row, for this, GNDU announced Rs 46,800 to the college & 16 Lac cash to the players. Besides, the college won Shaheed Bhagat Singh Punjab Games, 2016 with a cash prize of Rs. 4, 50,000/- & Overall General (Men & Women Combined) Sports Championship Trophy, 2014-15.” Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia congratulated the degree holders and exhorted them to follow the vedic path shown by Swami Dayanand Saraswati & Mahatma Hans Raj. She further motivated them to make the most of the future opportunities by overcoming the challenges posed before them.

In his enthusiastic address, Sh. Anil Joshi said that after graduating, a student should not focus merely on his or her self-development; rather he/she should focus on the progress of the nation. He emphasized the need of national awareness and added that a student cannot achieve the coveted goal of getting success without honesty and will power. In addition to the earlier grant of Rs. 5, 00000/- , Sh. Joshi announced a further grant of Rs. 5, 00000/- for the development of the college.

In his convocation address, Prof. Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that BBK DAV College for Women is a unique institution which plays an instrumental role in the holistic progress of the students. He added that population explosion has led to increase in social evils which can be tackled through the provision of the higher education only.

1345 graduates and post graduates from Arts, Commerce, Science, Economics, Journalism and Mass Communication, Media Studies and Production, Multimedia and Design Streams were awarded degrees on this occasion. College students presented a mesmerizing performance of the play Maran Upraant and a group folk song. Eminent media personages were honoured on the occasion.

Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee, presented the vote of thanks to the academicians, principals of other educational institutes and the professional elite of the city who graced the occasion with their presence. Dr. (Mrs.) Shelly Jaggi conducted the stage on this occasion.

On this occasion, Principal Dr. Rajesh, Principal Dr. Anita, Mr. J.K. Luthra, Honorary Treasurer, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee LMC Members Dr. V.P. Lakhanpal, Sh. Mohinderpal, members of Arya Samaj, media persons and all the members of teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students were present on this occasion. The convocation ended with the National Anthem.
