NSS Unit & Sports Wing of BBK DAV College for Women celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st June 2016 by organizing Yoga Practice Session as per Common Yoga Protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH. The programme began with DAV Gaan, Ved Mantras and lighting of the lamp. Renowned Yoga Practitioner and Trainer Shri Mohan Lal was the Chief Guest, while Shri Rajesh Batra, Shri Rajesh Bhawan, Mrs. Sonali Dhawan, Ms. Palak & Shri Kultar, all from Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, were accorded floral welcome.
Participants were taught various yoga aasanas. Around 150 students and 50 teachers of the college enthusiastically participated in the Yoga Practice Session. Addressing the participants, Sh. Mohan Lal, Sansthan Mantri said that Bhartiya Yog Sansthan is engaged in spreading the message of holistic power of Yoga for the last 50 years and has been running 3000 centres around the world.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, while appreciating the efforts of the NSS Unit and the Sports wing of the college said that Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj, was an outstanding yogi who practised yoga throughout his life and motivated all others to follow suit. She further added that Dr. Punam Suri, President, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi is a firm believer of yoga and is ceaselessly striving to promote the healthy practice of yoga. Principal Dr. Walia emphasized that in the stressful modern lifestyle, Yoga is helpful in maintaining the much-needed balance between body and mind and therefore, it should be an integral part of our life. Dr. Anita Narinder & Mrs. Renu Vashisth, Coordinators of Extension Activities Committee, along with Dr. Ritu Sharma, Mrs. Binu Kapoor, Mrs. Sweety Bala and NSS Coordinators/ Programme Officers Mrs. Priya Sharma, Dr. Shaifali Sharma, Mrs. Alpana Wahi & Mr. Rajdeep Mehra, & other faculty members participated in the event.
