Title: BBK DAV organises DBT-sponsored guest lecutres on 'Unzipping DNA by Force and Active Matter'

Department of Physics & Department of Zoology of BBK DAV College for Women organised DBT-sponsored guest lectures on ‘Unzipping DNA by Force’ & ‘Active Matter’. Dr. Rajiv Kapri & Dr. Abhishek Chaudhary, Assistant Professors, Department of Physics, IISER, Mohali were the resource persons.

While delivering a lecture on ‘Unzipping DNA by Force’, Dr. Rajiv Kapri acquainted the students with the concept of unzipping DNA by force and theoretical and experimental techniques used to study processes such as DNA replication and RNA transcription Dr. Abhishek Chaudhary delivered a lecture on the emerging area of active matter in which he described the collective dynamics of ants, birds, fish & various intra-cellular processes.

The lecture were followed by a career counselling session by both the resource persons in which students were made aware of the academic and the career prospects after completing graduation. They were motivated to plan their learning strategies according to the syllabi of national entrance tests such as TEST, NET, GATE etc.

Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the efforts of the department and said that such hands-on sessions are necessary to familiarise the students with practical skills. Dr. Shweta Mohan, Head, Department  of Physics & Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Head, Department of Zoology, along with other faculty members, were also present on the occasion.
