BBK DAV College for Women and District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar organized Legal Awareness Seminar on Human & Women Rights in the college premises.
On the occasion, Hon’ble Sh. Gurbir Singh, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman, District Legal Service Authority was the Chief Guest and he was accompanied by Mrs. Harpreet Randhawa, Additional District and Sessions Judge and Mrs. Girish Bansal, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, were present.
While interacting with the students and faculty members of the college, the Hon’ble Sessions Judge emphasized the importance of being conscious of one’s legal rights. He said that Indian judiciary has played a significant role in empowering women by setting up special courts to tackle the women related crimes on the fast track basis. He also acquainted the listeners with the Legal Services Authority Act, under which every woman is entitled to receive legal aid at the state’s expenses.
In an interactive session, Mrs. Harpreet Randhawa said that Indian legal system offers the necessary assistance to women, thus empowering them to protect their rights. She added that women empowerment is an attitude and mindset that has to come from within.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia thanked the dignitaries for conducting the seminar and making the students aware of their rights. She further added that BBK DAV College for Women has been celebrating International Women’s Week and this event is a part of the series of the celebration.
During the event, Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated in the college. Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee, Advocate Vipin Bhasin, Member LMC, Mrs. Arvinder Kaur, wife of Hon’ble Sessions Judge Sh. Gurbir Singh and Mrs. Natasha Goyal, wife of Mr. Yukti Goyal CJM, also graced the occasion.
