BBK DAV College for Women organised two days UGC and DBT sponsored National Conference on Clinical Diagnostics and Women’s Health Care. Dr. H.S. Nagpal, Managing Director, Hartej Hospital, was the Chief Guest while Dr. Geeta Sharma, Director, Principal, Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research was the Guest of Honour for the Inaugural Ceremony. Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Mahajan, Dean, College Development Council, GNDU delivered the presidential address for the Inaugural Session.
Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia welcomed the guests and said that clinical diagnostic techniques help doctors to diagnose the disease accurately and give right treatment to the patients. Acknowledging the precious bond between patients and doctors, she said that doctors are saviours sent by God at the time of deep physical and emotional crises.
In his presidential address, Dr. R.K. Mahajan, Daen, College Development Council, GNDU said that events which are directly or indirectly related to community welfare are very important. He said that it is very important to create awareness regarding women’s health as healthy women can keep their family healthy and hence can contribute towards a healthy society.
In his address, Dr. H.S. Nagpal congratulated the college on organising events on important issues. He said that good diagnostics techniques are very important in medical field, as early and accurate diagnosis of a disease can lead to a successful treatment. Dr. Geeta Sharma in her address said that the need of the hour is to educate women about various preventive screenings regarding breast cancer, crevix cancer and bone density. She added that such inter-institutional events should be organized more frequently to help girls to explore more avenues in the field of health sciences.
The Inaugural Session was followed by various invited talks on topics like Advances in Exfoliative Cytology- Screening of Cervical Cancer: A Clinical Perspective by Dr. Sita Sharma, M.D., (Obsts. & Gynae), Consultant Gynaecologist, Altech Laser Hospital and Fortis Escorts Hospital , Amritsar, Screening of Cervical Cancer: A Diagnostic Perspective by Dr. Sonam Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, Kalpna Chawla Govt. Medical College, Karnal, Bone Health in Females by Dr. Saurabh Agrawal, Resident Orthopaedician, Hardas Singh Hospital, Amritsar, Role of Hormonal Screening in Female Health by Dr. Sahiba Kukreja, Prof. and Head, Department of Biochemistry, SGRDIMSAR, Amritsar. Workshops on PAP Spear Test and Bone Mineral Density Test were also conducted.
Second day of the conference began with various invited lectures on issues, such as, Oral Health in Women by Dr. Jasmine Kaur, Associate Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillo-Facial Surgery, SGRD Dental College, Oral Health in Children & Adolescent Girls by Dr. Amita Sharma, Prof. & Head, Department of Dentistry, SHKM, Govt. Medical College, Mewat, Haryana, Screenings of Breast Cancer through Mammography by Dr. Sonali Soni, Director, Nanya Diagnostics , Role of FNAC in Screening of Breast Cancer by Dr. Rahul Manan, Prof. Department of Pathology, SGRDIMSAR, Amritsar & Dr. Sonam Sharma, Deptt. of Pathology, Kalpana Chawla Govt. Medical College, Karnal and Automation in Blood Analysis by Dr. Robin Tuli, Consultant Pathologist, Tuli Diagnostics.
Valedictory Session of the conference was chaired by Dr. Madhu Nagpal, Prof. & Head, Deptt. of Obst & Gynae, SGRD Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. She congratulated the college on organising such a successful conference. In her address, she talked about various changes that occur in female body with age and emphasized the importance of adapting these positively. She advised women to avoid obesity and stress as these two are the harbours of all other diseases.
Sh. Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman, Local Managing Committee gave vote of thanks to the guests. Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Head, Department of Zoology, along with other faculty members and students, were present during the conference.
